“This painting refences abstract forms from my small bronze sculptures, as well as gestures from a pencil drawing I made in 2019 at Tate Britain, of Henry Moore’s Two Piece Reclining Figure no.2. Within my paintings I seek solutions to visual and theoretical problems, whereby forms are simultaneously in a state of assemblage and dissolution, oscillating between image and object, abstraction and figuration. I create multiple works concurrently, repeatedly rearranging and privileging elements of these assemblages. It is within this realm of liminal potentiality that I intend this painting to inhabit.” Eleanor Louise Butt, 2023
